Sliding Panel Blinds Gatineau

Wide vertical panels gliding on a rail. The answer for patio doors, picture windows, or dividing a large room.

Looking for sliding panel blinds in Gatineau? They are wide fabric panels hung from a rail that glide sideways to cover or clear a large glass area. You may also hear them called panel track blinds or Japanese panels. They work especially well as patio door blinds (or sliding door blinds), and on picture windows and long runs of windows.

We make them in our Gatineau workshop, to your measurements, using the same fabrics as our roller shades and Roman shades.

Why choose sliding panels

A conventional blind can look fussy across a very wide opening. Sliding panels scale up to the size of the room.

  • One movement. Slide the panel over and the patio door is free.
  • A clean look. Wide bands of fabric create crisp vertical lines with a contemporary feel.
  • Real flexibility. Depending on the fabric, you can filter the sun, block the light or simply dress the window.
  • Two jobs in one. The same system works as a room divider.

Options and materials

Panels, rails and opening style

Each panel is 12 in to 24 in wide. The aluminum rail has 2, 3, 4 or 5 channels: the more channels, the more panels can stack neatly behind one another when open.

Openingside stack left or right, or centre split

A side stack gathers every panel to one side, which suits a wall with free space next to the window. A centre split parts the panels left and right of centre for a symmetrical look across a picture window.

Fabrics

The fabric sets the mood of the room:

  • Solar: softens glare while keeping a view to the outside. Generally popular in south- and west-facing living rooms and offices.
  • Blackout: blocks the light, a favourite for bedrooms and home theatres.
  • Decorative: textured or coloured, chosen as part of the overall look.

A pattern reads much larger on a wide panel than on a small blind, so we suggest looking at samples in the light of your own window, at different times of day.

Where sliding panels work best

  • Patio doors. Panels slide fully clear of the door. See our guide to blinds for patio doors and our vertical blinds.
  • Large picture windows. One rail can span the full width.
  • Room dividers. Set off a home office, dining area or entry in an open-plan space.
  • Commercial spaces. Meeting rooms and interior glazing. See our commercial window coverings.

How to choose

  1. Measure the total width to cover, allowing for the stacking space at each side. Our guide to measuring windows will get you started. For a patio door, our guide to measuring a patio door lists what to note.
  2. Pick the opening side based on furniture and free wall space.
  3. Decide on light level: solar, blackout or decorative.
  4. Consider motorization if the panels are wide or hard to reach. Somfy motorization is available, wired or radio.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

What we get asked most

What's the difference between panel tracks and Panello?

They are the same system. Panello is the name of one model. Both use vertical fabric panels that glide on a ceiling-mounted or wall-mounted rail. The differences between models come down mostly to fabric choice, panel width and rail finish.

Are sliding panels a good choice for a patio door?

Yes, it's one of their most common uses. The panels stack to one side or split at the centre and clear the door completely. There are no cords or slats swinging every time someone walks through. Our guide to blinds for patio doors compares the options.

How wide a window can sliding panels cover?

Each panel is 12 in to 24 in wide. The 2, 3, 4 or 5-channel rail adapts to the total width of your opening. For a very large opening, an advisor can recommend the right layout.

Can sliding panels be motorized?

Yes. Somfy motorization is available, wired or radio. It is handy on very wide windows or panels that are hard to reach. You then operate the panels with a remote, a wall switch or, as an option, a home-automation system.

How long does it take to get sliding panels?

The usual lead time is 2 to 4 weeks. Each set is made to order in our Gatineau workshop after measuring. On request, an advisor comes to measure each window to the 1/8 inch, and that visit is included in your quote.

Can sliding panels be used as a room divider?

Yes. A ceiling-mounted rail lets you close off or open up a large space as needed, for example a home office corner or a dining area. The fabric you choose sets the light and privacy you get on each side.
